Let’s build Linwood Elementary a new playground!
We’re building one that works for kids of all abilities and the entire community that shares it.
Help us design it: take our 5-minute family survey.
↑ your answers shape what we build.
The plan
Build a planning committee
Bring together parents and community members who want to support this project and help move it forward.
Hear from families and neighbors
Gather family and community feedback on what we all want in a playground for our community.
Lock in the design and goal
Use what we hear to finalize the playground design and set our fundraising goal.
Launch the fundraiser
Open to donations and rally our whole community to get it built.
Why we’re doing this
Recess is where kids make friends, and a playground is where a whole community comes together. But a playground built for only some bodies leaves kids watching from the sidelines, and their grown-ups watching with them.
We’re building one that welcomes everyone: kids who use wheelchairs or walkers, kids with sensory needs, kids who love to climb high and kids who’d rather swing low. It’s for the siblings, parents and grandparents who come along, and for neighbors of every age and ability. Inclusive design gives everyone a real way in, so every Linwood family can play, connect and belong, together.
What we believe
Every kid deserves a way in.
Not a spot on the sidelines, but a real way onto the playground and into the game.
Play is how kids make friends.
When every kid can play, every kid gets the chance to belong.
A public playground should work for the whole community.
Kids, parents, grandparents and neighbors.
Good design helps everyone.
Ramps, smooth ground and adaptive equipment make the playground better for all kids.
Help us design it
This playground is for our whole community, so we want to hear from you before anything gets picked. Tell us what your kids love, what keeps them off the playground today, and what would make it work for your family.
The survey takes about 5 minutes. Every answer helps shape the equipment, layout and features we fundraise for.
↑ 5 minutes, tops. kids’ opinions extra welcome.
It belongs to the whole community
This is a public playground. It is for the students who play there every day, and it is for everyone else who comes through. When it works for every kid, it works for every family.
psst… grown-ups are allowed on the swings too.
Join the committee
We’re building a small team of parents and neighbors to plan the playground and raise the money for it. Whatever you’re good at, there’s a place for it here. Share your skills below and we’ll be in touch about the next meeting.
What the committee does
A small, friendly group of Linwood parents and neighbors that meets about once a month, in person or online, to keep the project moving.
No experience needed
Give an hour a month or take the lead on something bigger. Every skill helps, and so does just showing up. Fill out the form and we will reach out with next steps.
↓ no meetings that could’ve been an email. pinky promise.
What is an inclusive playground?
An inclusive playground lets all kids play and enjoy it, together.
Inclusive
The whole playground is designed so kids of every ability can play side by side. Everyone gets a way in, a way around and something fun to do when they get there.
Adaptive
Adaptive equipment is built so more kids can use it. It is for all kids to play on, not only disabled kids. If you have ever spun on something just because it was fun, you already get it.
Accessible
Ramps and firm, smooth ground let wheels, walkers and strollers get all the way in. Getting there and getting on comes first.
Is adaptive equipment only for kids with disabilities?
No. It is for everyone. Kids who love to spin, kids who are afraid of heights, kids who would rather stay close to the ground and kids who love sensory play all find something to do.
Who is a playground for?
Kids first, and the parents, grandparents and neighbors who come with them. Grown-ups push swings and catch kids at the bottom of the slide too, and some of them need a way in as well.
Why does this matter so much?
Play is where kids make friends. A kid who cannot get onto the playground ends up watching from the sidelines while their friends play. Parents and grandparents need a way in too, and a space where they can support and play right alongside the kids. We want to build a playground that welcomes every person.
